2009-2010

Once again the Field station had an extremely busy winter.  We were again blessed with fantastic volunteer field interns who worked really hard and helped make a difference.  Bianka joined us this year helping out in the kitchen and around camp.  The weather was wonderful even with a few severe downpours.  And AWA beat an army of birders in the first annual Superbird Saturday big day challenge.  AWA saw over 200 species of birds in two small areas of southern Sonora while birders fanned out over the entire state of Washington to see a total of 120 species.  A great time was had by all.  We had wonderful visitors from all over the continent this season and enjoyed seeing everyone.

The irrigation for the recently cleared fields made the road a bit of a mess this winter, however we have assurances that next winter it will not happen.  New strides were also made on the Conservation front this winter with new possibilities for the protected areas.  Thanks to everyone for your support.

We are facing a fundraising challenge for the upcoming 2010-11 season.  Several new expenses have been identified for the field station.  We are contracting a new palm roof for the large palapa/dining room.  We will have a beautiful palm roof that will remain dry even during heavy rain.  A new vehicle is also required for next season as our trusty suburban has decided it is time to retire from reliable service.  American AWA staff has again agreed to forgo compensation in order to help pay for these and other expenses.  FI you would like to donate a truck, or some money please donate on the website, www.alamoswildlands.org/SupportUs.htm

Thank You
